Lately, I’ve been hanging out a lot in Market! Market!. It’s mainly because I work closer to the mall now, but also because they have a ton of fresh fruits and flowers for sale (I love regularly getting fresh stuff). Of course, I get hungry and hunt for food places in the area that’s not overcrowded during rush hour and serve good noms. One such place that I discovered quite recently is Icings. It’s located at the new wing in Market! Market! across BreadTalk, if you’re familiar with the place.
We first saw the little corner store on the way home after a hearty dinner. That being said, our being full did not deter us from trying out the place. What welcomes you as you enter the restaurant is an enticing display shelf full of beautiful baked cakes and various freshly baked breads and pastries. But more than just coffee and sweets, the Icings menu had a full list of main entrees as well.
Since our bellies were full when we first ate at Icings, we sampled a couple of their lighter offerings, specifically an appetizer called Cheese Pipes and the all-time best seller, Pistachio Cooler. Both are just phenomenal. To this day, these two initial offerings keep me coming back for more.
The Cheese Pipes are mozarella sticks wrapped in a really thin crust and fried to perfection. It comes with a mildly spicy salsa dip that, together with the salty, chewy, melted cheese sticks, just blows your mind. I make gross moaning sounds with each bite. They are THAT mind blowing. The Pistachio Cooler is so luscious and creamy that it’s more a dessert rather than a shake. The walnut topping and hint of caramel is just a wonderful combination.
The next time we went to Icings (prolly a few days later), we made sure to try their main entries.
They were pretty fantastic as well. The Herb Crusted Fish Fillet deserves special mention. I liked it so much that I tried to replicate it at home (if you were wondering, it was successful enough!). On top of our main meals, we always order Cheese Pipes and Pistachio Cooler of course (hrhr). And always end up having a nommy good time.
All in all, Icings is a nice find. They’re hardly ever full (yay, no waiting time), they have a good variety of noms choices, the prices are reasonable enough, the ambiance is homey, and the service is good.
Rating: Icings gets a respectable 3.5 out of 5 bacons! Plus points for the nomsgasmic Cheese Pipes and the all too sinful Pistachio Cooler; minus points for the early closing time and slight inaccessibility.
